We streamline the arduous process of maintaining the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) by tracking on-board hazardous materials from onboarding to offboarding, in compliance with the ever-evolving international maritime laws, including the ratified Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC 2009), the European Union Ship Recycling Regulation (EUSRR), and the latest amendments under MEPC 379(80). Our solution provides user-focused technology that enhances visibility into a vessel’s inventory, empowering vessel managers to grow with increased operational transparency. Our offering, Varuna Sentinels IHM Maintenance Server (VSIMS), is designed to help shipowners and managers comply with HKC 2009, which will enter into force in June 2025, as well as EUSRR regulations. VS believes in staying one step ahead by simplifying data and record collection in the most economical and non-disruptive manner, ensuring full readiness for future compliance with HKC and other upcoming regulations. The VS software (VSIMS) not only collects Material Declarations (MDs) and Supplier Declarations of Conformity (SDoCs) when items are delivered on board, but it also tracks their location on board until they are finally offloaded, providing a clear audit trail for the 16 hazardous elements identified in the regulations. At any time, a snapshot of the vessel’s hazardous material inventory can be provided, detailing how items came on board, their movements, and current locations. Historical data will also be maintained, showing how and with whom materials were offloaded, thereby ensuring a complete cradle-to-grave record that supports regulatory compliance and enhances sustainability initiatives.
