Under the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC), in force globally since 26 June 2025, every ship of 500 GT and above on international voyages must carry an International Certificate on Inventory of Hazardous Materials (ICIHM), valid for up to five years and renewed at the harmonised renewal survey.
